Without a doubt, taking private or group dance lessons will improve your skills and help you look good on the dance floor. There are classes offered every day of the week, no partner required. Many studios offer a free consultation or free first lesson in addition to discounted rates for purchasing multiple lessons. Most classes are progressive, requiring the dancer to take all lessons in a series. Some studios allow drop ins to some or all of their classes. Check below for a listing of area studios that offer Salsa and other Latin dance lessons and dance parties.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio
Arthur Murray teaches all Latin dances including Salsa and the lesser-known Paso Doble and Bolero. They follow a three-step teaching process that combines private lessons, group lessons and practice sessions. They offer a free initial consultation. Students are prepared for social dancing or competition, depending upon their goals. There are no drop in classes.
The Ballroom of Sacramento
The Ballroom of Sacramento is a well-established dance studio that teaches Salsa, Cha-cha,Samba, Tango and Rumba in addition to ballroom dances. It has a large main dance floor well-suited for its popular Saturday night social dance and numerous smaller floors for group and private lessons. Most classes at The Ballroom are progressive. Sign up for the series and learn new material each week. Drop in classes are clearly noted on their class schedule. The studio features 1,000 square feet of parquet floor in a U-shaped configuration comprising two large floors. State-of-the-art sound system, full-wall mirrors, versatile lighting, and sumptuous decor by Richard Berteaux contribute to a stimulating environment for dance instruction and an elegant setting for formal parties and balls. A video camera is available to tape lessons and performances, and students can gather around the monitor to study their progress. From early morning to well past midnight, students come by to practice, consult on choreography, and just hang out. Barbara's offers beginning, intermediate and advanced Salsa classes (five weeks for $35) in addition to beginning and intermediate Argentine Tango ($10 per lesson).
The Dance Corner
The Dance Corner offers classes by local instructors in a variety of dance styles, including Latin. It is a brand new studio with floating bamboo floors, a main ballroom and private lesson rooms. It is the home for Del Campo Dance Studios and Malko Dance as well as Tango classes by Luis "El Suave" Caceres. The studio space is available for hourly rental. Del Campo Dance Studio
Del Campo Dance Studio has the most extensive Salsa program in Sacramento and the surrounding area offering Salsa on 1, 2 (Classic Original Style Mambo), and New York Style on 2. They teach group lessons two nights a week at their studio and outside the studio in Salsa club venues including The Station and Club 21. Students can drop in on any of the Salsa classes. Del Campo Dance Studio also offers occasional workshops on specific techniques, styling, lead/follow and more to help students become better dancers. Classes at the clubs are for beginners and are free, however, the clubs may have a cover charge. Mike and Gina have more than fifteen years experience in Sacramento's Salsa community. Mike has been teaching Salsa in the Sacramento area for twenty years and teaches other Latin and Ballroom dances as well, but Salsa is their specialty. Private lessons and wedding packages are available. Easy, lighted, safe parking.

The Firehouse 5
The Firehouse 5 offers Salsa, Tango, and Cha-cha-cha classes. Classes and Practica are $35 per month, or $10 for drop-in classes and $3 for drop-in Practica (free with class).
There is a La alterNATIVA Milonga starting at 9 p.m. on the first, third and fifth Saturday of every month featuring traditional, non-traditional and alternative Tango music for $10.

Fontaine Dance
Primarily offering ballroom classes, Fontaine dance has a beautiful two-floor studio in Roseville and periodic special pricing such as four group lessons for $39. New classes start at the beginning of each month. They offer Salsa, Rumba and Cha-cha classes for the Latin dance lover. Nancy and Steve Fontaine have years of experience teaching dance and make learning a pleasant experience. Parking available in their lot.

Genovia Dance
Look for Genovia Dance in its new digs at Anti-Gravity School of Dance & Fitness, 201-C Harding Blvd. in Roseville. Class times have been moved to thirty minutes later than at its former location. Harding is near Douglas and Interstate 80. Salsa classes Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. Call Elliott and Cara for private instruction at $55 per hour or three sessions for $125.

Sacramento Cultural Arts Center
The Sacramento Cultural Arts Center offers Salsa lessons for children and adults. They also offer Bachata and Afro-Cuban dance on a periodic basis. The location has two dance floors and a playroom for children to use while their parents take classes. Lessons are generally $10 a class for drop ins and $40 a month pre-paid. Salsa Sierra
Love to Salsa dance? Hate being stepped on? Salsa Sierra is the place for you. So take a drive up the hill and enjoy a very large dance floor and relaxed atmosphere. Owner Lucy Galbraith offesr a full schedule of Latin dance classes including Salsa and Rueda. Beginning classes start every month. Group and private lessons are available. Group lessons are $12 for drop-ins, $40 for four week classes paid at the door and $35 in advance. There are discounts for taking multiple four week classes. Private lessons are $40 an hour or two lessons for $60. Tuesday night is dance night at the studio from 7:30-10:00 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge. Frequent Saturday dances – check the website for schedule. Plenty of parking in their lot.

Spotlight Dance & Fitness features 7,200 square feet of floating wood dance floor. They offer a wide selection of group and private lessons in Salsa, Merengue, Bolero and Cha-cha-cha. Instructor permission required for levels 3 and above. They offer a free thirty minute personal consultation and a free first group lesson. In addition, the New Student Special provides five regular group classes for $25 (half price). Drop ins pay $12 for a 45 minute lesson. Discount cards can reduce the price to $7-$10 a lesson, depending upon the number of lessons purchased. Private lessons start at $75 for 45 minutes and discounts are available for private packages. Tango by the River
Tango by the River is located in Old Sacramento. The studio offers group and private lessons in - what else - the Argentine Tango. Tango by the River has 1,500 feet of hardwood dance floor and an elegant ambiance featuring large view windows, antiques and reproductions to make the space reminiscent old Buenos Aires, where Tango originated. Tuesday lessons start each month and include levels I, II with level III on Thursdays. Pricing for the month of lessons is $50 per person, $90 per couple. Sunday Bachata classes are at 7:00 p.m. for beginners and 8:00 p.m. for level II. Monday Salsa classes are offered on the same schedule: 7:00 p.m. for beginners and 8:00 p.m. for level II. Private lessons are $75 a lesson or ten lessons for $650. Tango by the River also hosts a Friday night Practilonga for $5 and twice monthly dances on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The dance includes a beginning lesson and refreshments for $10 if tickets are purchased online, $15 at the door. Tickets are sometimes more when there is a live band. Parking is available in the old Sacramento parking structures or at metered spaces on the street.

The Warehouse
Learn beginning and advanced Miami Style Rueda from veteran instructor Tony Martinez. If you have been wanting to learn to dance Rueda, that fun dance circle you see at some of the clubs, then contact Tony. You must be a solid Salsa dancer to join. Call for information about beginning classes.Tony's Intermediate/Advanced classes have changed times from 8:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays. The group is looking for more participants. You must be an intermediate level Salsa dancer with some experience with Rueda to join. Lessons are $5 and are held at the Warehouse, a private studio, in Sacramento.

Yemaya Salsa Dance Company
The Yemaya Salsa Dance Company has been serving the Sacramento community since 2000. They offer group lessons, private lessons, workshops, performances, and more. All classes are open to all ages and all levels. The dance company created six teams to meet the needs of their students. They are: Yemaya Salsa Performing Team, Salsa Libre Amateur Team, Training Team, Yemaya Teens, Los Bachateros and The Ladies of Yemaya (an all ladies dance team that dances 'On 2').
